Hello planar travelers!

We have such sights to show you! Let’s start with a progress update on the books you’ve funded.

Path of the Planebreaker has completed the editing stage and is well into layout. We’ll be working on this step for a few more weeks, then it goes into proofing, and then it’s off to press! We remain on track to deliver this book as scheduled. Here’s a quick look at the layout in progress. (These are unfinished and unproofed pages, so the content isn’t final.)

This is the 5e version of the book; the Cypher System version is following in its footsteps.

While our small but mighty production team is busy with this, the design team hasn’t been idle. Design and development work on the Planar Bestiary is drawing to a close, and it moves into editing soon. (Again, the 5e version leads the process, with the Cypher System version following a few months behind.)

But that’s not all! Have a look at these:

Prep work on the miniatures is complete! We will begin fulfilling the STL files in the next week or so. Production on the physical minis will also begin shortly.

And speaking of production, you’re looking at production samples of the Planebreaker dice—standard and premium versions—and the Planebreaker dice tray. The photo does NOT do them justice; the large, striking premium dice in particular are a prize any planar adventurer would covet. These are going into full-scale production this month. (Didn't back for these items? You can add them in BackerKit! If your pledge is locked down, just contact us at [email protected] and we'll unlock it for you.)

We have a sneak peek at some new Path of the Planebreaker art to share with you, but first:

The Old Gods Stir

In the mountains of central Appalachia, blood runs as deep as these hollers and just as dark. Since before our kind wandered into these hills, hearts of unknowable hunger and madness have slumbered beneath them. These are the oldest mountains in the world. How dare we think we can break the skin of a god and dig out its heart without also calling blood and darkness?

Long before anything human roamed the Earth, the Appalachians towered tall and menacing. The mountains’ might was made a prison and tomb for beings of immeasurable malice and incomprehensible madness. A place to hold them; to keep them, perhaps forever, from dimming the light above.

But time shows no mercy, not even to mountains, and now they lay bare and worn like an old man’s spine. The walls of the prison grow thin, and those that have slumbered soundlessly for millennia begin to stir.

And they call to those who would hear them.

Old Gods of Appalachia, a roleplaying game of the Green, the Inner Dark, and things even more ancient, is on Kickstarter now. Download the free 30-page primer to get a sense of what the game will be like. Or drop by the Kickstarter—it’s one of the most exciting campaigns we’ve ever run!

And Now Some Art!

Here’s a small sampling of brand-new art we’ve commissioned for Path of the Planebreaker.

Thanks again for your support!

Design and Reward Progress Report
about 2 years ago – Thu, Feb 10, 2022 at 01:04:07 AM

Hello planar travelers!

We’re happy to report that design work on the 5e version of Path of the Planebreaker is just about wrapped up. Monte, Bruce, and Sean have been working hard over the past few months, and Bruce is currently putting the final touches on the last of the adventures—the final bit of text to be written. From there, Path of the Planebreaker moves into editing, followed by layout and proofing, and then it’s off to the presses!

Those steps still represent several months of work, so we won’t see Path of the Planebreaker in print until this summer. Still, we’re ahead of schedule. That’s by design: production supply chains can be unreliable these days, so getting ahead of the curve now hedges against possible delays later.

Want a quick peek at the adventures Bruce has been working on? He provided this blurb for “Tyrant’s Key," an adventure from the book that we’re also adapting to run at Gen Con this summer.

A duke of Hell forged a masterpiece of destruction, a massive flying battlecraft able to cross the planes: the Tyrant of War. Upon reaching a destination, the devilish ship could rain down hellfire-laced attacks of cataclysmic potency. But soon after it was constructed, the Tyrant went missing. It’s been lost somewhere among the planes for generations—until now.

(If you’re attending Gen Con, look for this adventure when event registration opens up on May 15th. Or, better yet, consider joining us as a GM—it’s loads of fun, and you can get a free badge and other great perks!)

In the meantime, work on other rewards moves apace as well. Dice, the Explorer’s Journal, and similar rewards have moved toward production. And our 3D artists are just finishing up the task of converting their models into print-ready STL files, in supported and unsupported versions—we expect to fulfill those pretty soon!

Look for fulfillment news on those and other rewards in the weeks to come. And we’ll update you on the progress of Path of the Planebreaker, and the other books you funded, as they move toward completion.

Thanks again for your support!

Locking Down BackerKit and Charging Cards
over 2 years ago – Sat, Jan 15, 2022 at 01:42:33 AM

Hello backers!

First, we want you to know that Bruce, Sean, and Monte are hard at work on Path of the Planebreaker for 5e and it is coming along great.

Second, today through BackerKit, we will be locking down orders and charging cards for any add-ons that you wish to purchase.

If you or someone you know joined the campaign through BackerKit, we will also be locking down those orders and charging cards. The preorder store will remain open a bit longer for any who still wish to join in the campaign.

In either case, whether you backed through Kickstarter or joined us in BackerKit, if there is something amiss and your card fails to charge today, please don't worry that you will lose your rewards. At a later date, we will attempt again to charge those cards.

And remember! We don't need to know your shipping address, because you will tell us your address through the MCG Shop each time you redeem your rewards.

Thank you for supporting this campaign!

over 2 years ago – Fri, Dec 10, 2021 at 09:52:02 PM

Greetings backers!

The BackerKit Smoke Test went smoothly and all surveys have now been sent out. If you missed the BackerKit link, you can join through the survey recovery page. Please take a moment and complete the BackerKit survey. It gives you loads of good information about our processes (like why we don't collect your shipping address now) and it gives us vital fulfillment information.

For those of you who doubled your EXPLORER (or other level) pledge to get rewards for both 5e and Cypher System, please reach out to us on [email protected] so we can help you accomplish this.

If you have friends who weren't able to back this campaign while it was live, please share the Planebreaker Late Pledge page with them now.

Our team is hard at work designing and developing games to bring you hours and hours of RPG fun. If you're curious about our release schedule, please check out our Coming Soon page. If the product you're curious about doesn't appear there, please don't worry—that simply means it is further out on our release schedule.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday season!

Planebreaker BackerKit Opening Soon!
over 2 years ago – Wed, Dec 08, 2021 at 04:10:38 AM

Greetings backers!

This is a mini-update to let you know that we've started opening BackerKit for Planebreaker . . . huzzah!

The first step in opening BackerKit is to send surveys to 5% of backers from each pledge level (the 5% of backers to receive surveys is selected at random). BackerKit calls this step the Smoke Test. Once the surveys are sent, BackerKit collates data on the response rate, the proportion of support inquiries received, and the add-on purchase rate to let us know if the survey and pledge questions are working appropriately.

Once we're sure all is well, surveys will be sent to all remaining backers, which will expect will be this week.

Warm regards,

Tammie
